Ocala police seeking witnesses in fatal hit-and-run Saturday night

Ocala police are seeking witnesses in a fatal hit-and-run that took place on Saturday in Ocala.

At around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, 39-year-old Alicha Andino and 28-year-old Jessie Caldero were hit by a 2014 Nissan Frontier that was traveling westbound on East State Road 40, according to a media release. Andino and Caldero were walking northbound in a crosswalk at the intersection of East SR 40 and NE 1st Ave. when they were struck by the vehicle. The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and did not stop after the collision, dragging the victims approximately 400 feet. After continuing traveling westbound, the driver abandoned the vehicle just west of U.S. Hwy. 441 on West SR 40. Andino and Caldero died at the scene of the accident.

OPD is seeking information from anyone who may have seen a silver 2014 Nissan Frontier being driven or parked prior to 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the general area of East SR 40. OPD is specifically looking to identify previous locations of the vehicle or businesses the driver visited that evening.
