FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Marion County, FL.– April 11, 2018: The Marion County Supervisor of Elections Annual High School Voter Registration Challenge began September 2017 and was completed by March 2018. The newly enhanced program is aimed at increasing civic participation by registering and educating eligible students on the election process in Marion County. The winning school is determined by the highest number of voter registrations based on the percentage of eligible students.

North Marion Students Registering

All of Marion County’s public high schools participated in the challenge. Per request, we also visited Trinity Catholic and Marion Technical Institute. Marion County Supervisor of Elections, Wesley Wilcox, CERA and outreach representatives from the Election Center conducted presentations and registration drives at each school reaching nearly 3,000 seniors. As a result, 736 students decided to register and were added to Marion County’s rolls which is a 479% increase from the previous year and is the highest ever.
We are pleased to announce Belleview High School as the winner of this year’s challenge. Supervisor Wilcox is scheduled to meet with Principal Kelly on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 10:00 AM to congratulate students and staff and present Belleview High School with a traveling trophy and certificate. The school will also be recognized on a plaque permanently displayed in the media room of the Marion County Election Center.
