Summerfield woman pepper-sprays man in his face during argument

Kinmberlin Azcuy

A woman who sprayed a man in the face with pepper spray inside a Summerfield home was arrested Monday afternoon.

According to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies made contact 18-year-old Kinmberlin Azcuy at the intersection of SE 36th Avenue and SE 146th Lane. She told them that she and the man she pepper-sprayed “do not get along” and they “got into an argument over nothing in particular.” Azcuy said the man was “getting in her face” and she told him that if he did it again, she would pepper-spray him. Azcuy said the man continued to yell at her, so she sprayed him, the report says.

Azcuy then left the home, located on SE 146th Pl., and started walking until she ran into the deputies who were responding to the call for help.

The victim told deputies that Azcuy “showed up at the house with a bad attitude” and the two of them got into a verbal altercation. He said they were standing on opposite sides of the dining room table when she pepper-sprayed him.

The man said most of the spray went into his mouth, but deputies noticed that his eyes had redness in them that was consistent with being pepper-sprayed.

Deputies also spoke with the man’s mother, who confirmed his story. The mother she was upset because she also was sprayed while standing near the man, though she knew it was not intentional.

The man told deputies that he didn’t want Azcuy to “get into any trouble” because she was only 18 and he “didn’t want her life ruined.” He also refused to write a written narrative explaining what happened or sign any paperwork. And he said he didn’t need medical attention.

Azcuy was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail. She was charged with domestic battery and held without bail.
