Marion County Canvassing Board to hold post-election audit

The Marion County Canvassing Board for the Primary Election will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, to conduct a post‐election audit.

The meeting will be held at the Marion County Election Center, 981 NE 16th Street in Ocala, Marion County Supervisor of Elections Wesley Wilcox said.

In accordance with the Sunshine Laws of Florida, all Canvassing Board meetings are open to the public.

Immediately following the certification of each election, the county canvassing board, or the local board responsible for certifying the election, shall conduct a manual audit, or an automated, independent audit of the voting systems used in randomly selected precincts.

The purpose of the audit is to ensure that the machine count is equivalent to the human count and that the machines accurately recorded and tabulated votes cast in the election.

This past Thursday, the publicly noticed Canvassing Board meeting was held to randomly select a race that appeared on the Primary ballot. Two random drawings were performed to select a race and percentage of precincts that would be used for the manual audit. The selected contest was County Commission District 2. The selected precincts were 3720 and 4590.
