Woman found in ‘fetal-like’ position jailed on DUI, suspended license charges

Delsa Darline Figuero

An Ocala woman was arrested Friday after a Fruitland Park Police officer found her curled up in fetal-like position in the driver’s seat of her black Volkswagen.

Delsa Darline Figuero, 44, didn’t respond when the officer shined his flashlight through the window, nor when he called out to her. She finally “woke up startled” when the officer tapped on her window. And when asked if she was OK, Figuero responded, “Are you (expletive deleted) serious,” a police report states.

As Figuero, who lives at 3510 SW 5th Ct. in Ocala, continued to mumble, the officer asked her to roll down her window. She couldn’t figure out how to do so and finally opened the door of the vehicle. The officer immediately smelled the odor of alcohol and Figuero “seemed to slur her words,” the report says.

The officer asked Figuero for her identification and she “fumbled around” for several seconds while continuing to mumble incoherently. She then attempted to give him a small backpack with what appeared to be makeup inside it, the report states.

The officer asked Figuero what she was doing and she stated, “I didn’t want to drive drunk, so I pulled over to sleep until I was good,” the report says.

A check of Figuero’s driving record showed that her license was suspended as of Oct. 11. After a series of field sobriety tests, she was taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail, where she was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and driving with a suspended license. She was released Saturday morning on $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in a Lake County courtroom on Dec. 5 at 8 a.m. to answer to charges.
