Virginia Ramos

Virginia Ramos (aka Gin) 92 passed away on Saturday, November 24th 2018 at The Bridgewater Park Health and Rehab in Ocala, Florida. She was born on April 20th 1926 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. At about the age of 20 years old she moved to New York with 2 young children, where she learned how to become a professional seamstress. Later she went to school at Bronx Community College to become a home attendant for senior citizens. Then later in her life she had 3 more children.

Gin attended a Cursillo Retreat that changed her life. After the retreat she became an active member of the church and became a Eucharistic Minister. Gin was very active with the church; she would read the scriptures at the Sunday mass, she visited the sick and helped wherever she could in the community. She loved to read the Bible, pray the rosary and listen to her religious music every day. She also loved dancing, singing and sewing. Gin enjoyed the outdoors, planting plants, flowers, trimming trees, brushes and pulling weeds. She also enjoyed pulling lemons off the lemon trees to make lemon juice and lemonade. Her favorite food was rice, beans, bacao and platanos.

Gin is survived by her loving children, Jose (Blanca) Serrano, Dalia (Henry) Sosa, David Cottes, Lisa (Sal) Cartagine and Jr (Maline) Rivera. Gin is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 3rd, 5:00 – 7:00 pm at St. Jude Catholic Community, 443 Marion Oaks Drive in Ocala. The funeral mass will be Tuesday, December 4th, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm followed by refreshments. We will then proceed to the interment at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, 5050 SW 20th St., Ocala.
