Jane L. Meyer

Jane L. Meyer died peacefully in her sleep on November 26, 2018 at home with family at her side in Lucas, Iowa. She was 94. In the months before her death, she often commented that she kept telling GOD she was ready, but that GOD kept telling her that he wasn’t ready just yet for her. Her faith and her prayers were a vital part of her life. She served for a time as a Eucharist Minister and was a member of the Legion of Mary.

Jane was born and raised in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. She was 2nd oldest of Irma and Julian Braggs’ 10 children.

She graduated from Ladysmith High School and worked with family at the local cheese factory. In 1944 she married Victor Meyer. Together they had 13 children. Jane & Victor spent their early years together in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, Glenview, IL and Buffalo GR, Illinois. In 1972 they moved to Ocala, Florida.

In her later years, she said that she had always wanted to be a mother. Jane was also proud of the work she did, both as a nursing assistant in hospitals, and later as a lobby attendant for McDonalds.

She lived a simple life. She often spent her time “bush wacking” (clearing brush and pruning trees). Enjoyments included reading, watching Survivor, chocolate, white tulips, gardening, Alaskan trips, novelty catalogues, Cracker Barrel, porch swings, window shopping, yard ornaments. “Dessert first” brought a sparkle to her eyes: Hot fudge sundaes, pie alamode, chocolate cake…

Visits, telephone calls, pictures, cards, letters and other thoughtful gifts from family and friends enriched her life and allowed opportunities for her to touch the lives of others. During the last 4 years, living with Janice and Steve Meyer, Jane experienced some of the closest cherished relationship of her life. To her surprise, she thoroughly enjoyed card games, Scrabble, and jigsaw puzzles. She actively joined in conversations contributing wisdom, opinions, and wit as the opportunities unfolded. Those of us who knew her during her younger years, have marveled at how much she changed blossomed, and grew with family and friends in Iowa.

Many of us who have been able to spend time with Jane this year, have noticed a calm graciousness about her, as she coped with the changes of body, mind, spirit, and energy that were part of her dying process. With the close support of family, friends, and hospice, she took to heart the wise advice to continue to live fully during the time she had praying; reading, laughing, sharing, gardening, visiting and jigsaw puzzling filled much of her time these last 9 months.

Jane was preceded in death by her Husband Victor; Daughter Priscilla Klim; Son Edward Meyer; by her parents Irma and Julian Bragg; by her brothers Richard, Bob, Ralph, and Noel.

She is succeed by her children and their spouses: Ronald Meyer, Omi, Theresa & (Barry) Williams, Cecilia Meyer, Joseph & (Sue) Meyer, Andrew & (Nancy) Meyer, Steve & (Janice) Meyer, Nonnita Meyer, Delora Wieslewski, Basil (Myong) Meyer, Milissa & (Kevin) Hanna, Hubert & (Theresa) Meyer. Also, by her siblings Irma Voss, Margaret Raccanelli, and Carol Mazzarese, Don Bragg, & Chuck Bragg. She has many Grand and Great Grandchildren.

A prayer service was held at Robert Bruce Chapel East in Ocala, Florida on 12/4/2018. A funeral service will be held 12/5/2018 at Queen of Peace Church (8:30am). At her request, she will be buried in GOOD SHEPPARD MEMORIAL GARDENS, in Ocala, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
