Eye-poking Ocklawaha woman jailed on child abuse charge after nasty skirmish

Crystal Lee Neely

An Ocklawaha woman was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly striking a juvenile female and poking her in the eye during a domestic dispute.

Crystal Lee Neely, 33, was charged with domestic child abuse without great bodily harm after the incident, which the victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy started when Neely’s boyfriend yelled at her for the house being dirty. The victim said she responded with a “cuss word,” Neely started yelling at her and she then left the residence in fear.

According to the victim, when Neely caught up with her on the street, she pushed her to the ground, causing her to strike her back on a vehicle tire. She said Neely then wouldn’t let her get up and put her finger in her left eye, causing it to hurt, a sheriff’s office report states.

The deputy noted multiple injuries on the victim, including her right bicep being red in color, scratches and redness on both shoulder blades and redness around her left eye.

Neely told the deputy that the victim became upset and left the residence because she wasn’t allowed to see her boyfriend. She claimed the victim threw herself to the ground, injuring herself, and that she grabbed the victim’s right arm to get her off the ground, the report says.

Neely also said she “popped” the victim on the leg during the altercation, and that she didn’t intentionally poke her in the eye but it could have happened by accident.

Two juvenile witnesses told the deputy they heard the victim yelling for help, so they rode their bicycles over to see what was going on. Both said they saw Neely push the victim to the ground and continue to hold her down, pinning her against a vehicle tire. And one of the witnesses said she saw Neely’s finger go into the victim’s eye, the report says.

Neely was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she is being held on $2,000 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 29.
