Ocala man charged with battering pregnant bride just two weeks after wedding

Paramveer Singh

The honeymoon is over for an Ocala couple, as a man stands accused of battering his pregnant wife on multiple occasions just two weeks after they were married.

Paramveer Singh, 35, was charged early Wednesday with aggravated domestic battery of a pregnant victim and kidnapping/false imprisonment after the victim told Ocala Police about incidents of domestic violence that happened Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

The victim said Singh started drinking alcohol on Sunday after he received a phone call from his other child’s mother. The victim said she and Singh got into an argument because she was upset that he had gotten drunk. She said Singh punched her on the left side of her forehead, and that the blow caused the right side of her head to hit a bed post, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that the victim said Singh was remorseful for hitting her and they went to bed after he calmed down.

The victim said Singh came home from work at approximately 11:40 a.m. the next day and she could tell he had been drinking again. The couple started arguing, and Singh took the keys to her mother’s vehicle and drove off, the report says.

When he returned, the victim said they continued to argue and Singh allegedly grabbed her by the wrist and forearms, leaving several bruises. At one point, Singh wrapped his arms around her waist and squeezed her, and she pushed him in the chest and slapped him in the face. Singh eventually calmed down and they went to bed, the report says.

The victim said the couple argued again on Tuesday, and Singh took the victim’s iPad and threw it against the wall. At that point, she told Singh to leave the house because she could see things weren’t going to work out, the report says.

The victim said Singh then began to chase her around the house and prevented her from leaving. She said she felt captive in her own home. She said Singh went back to work, and when he returned home, they argued again and he allegedly threatened the victim and her mother, the report says, adding that the woman told Singh she would put his clothing outside and would be calling the police.

The responding officer observed and photographed the victim’s injuries. The victim said she and Singh had dated seven months and were only married two weeks. She also said she was five weeks pregnant with his child, and that he knew she was pregnant because he was with her at the clinic when she found out, the report says.

Singh was apprehended at a co-worker’s house. He told police the argument was small and that he never hit the victim. He said she actually hit him and left bruises, but he wouldn’t let the officer to take any photographs and became uncooperative, the report says.

Singh is being held on $7,000 bond in the Marion County Jail and will appear in Marion County Court on April 9.
