Ocala firefighters battle vehicle fire threatening nearby residence

Ocala Fire Rescue crews were called to battle an early-morning vehicle fire.

The blaze, in the 5000 block of SW 5th St., threatened the home where it was parked and melted the headlight cover, bumper skirt and paint off an adjacent car.

When Battalion Chief 22 and crews from Engine 3, Rescue 3 and Engine 4 arrived, they found the vehicle fully involved in flames in the yard of a residence. It was approximately 20 feet from the home and five feet from another vehicle.

Using a pre-connected hose, crews began extinguishing the fire. They also quickly added Wet Water, a chemical that increases water’s penetrating properties, to the water stream the crews used to extinguish the flames.

There were no injuries and the cause of the blaze is unknown, a report says.
