Ocala man charged with DUI after being stopped for speeding

Alvin Jerod Overstreet

An Ocala man pulled over for speeding on NE 25th Avenue was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy clocked a silver Chevy SUV traveling southbound at 59 mph in a 35-mph zone and conducted a traffic stop in the 3600 block. The driver – Alvin Jerod Overstreet, 38, of 5950 SW 63rd Lane – told the deputy he thought he was going 30 mph, according to the sheriff’s office report.

While speaking with Overstreet, the deputy could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and observed his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Overstreet said he had one beer about three hours earlier, the report said.

After failing a series of field sobriety tests, Overstreet was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Friday on $1,000 bond.
