Erratic-driving Ocala man jailed after hitting vehicle and crashing into ditch

Roderick Keith Daniels Jr.

An Ocala man was jailed Wednesday morning after driving his SUV at a high rate of speed on the shoulder of Interstate 75, striking another vehicle and ending up in a ditch.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy reported seeing 26-year-old Roderick Keith Daniels Jr. drive his silver Jeep Patriot at a fast pace on the shoulder of the interstate to pass stopped traffic. The deputy said he attempted a traffic stop but Daniels continued to drive in an erratic manner, the report says.

Daniels then got off on the northbound exit of I-75 at west State Road 40 before driving back into the traffic lane into the west side of the shoulder of the roadway and striking a vehicle and a sign. The deputy said Daniels’ vehicle then crashed into a ditch and he got out of the SUV and put his hands in the air, the report says.

Daniels, who lives at 329 Marion Oaks Blvd., was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with failing to obey a law enforcement officer’s order to stop. He was released early Thursday morning on $2,000 bond and his next court date hasn’t yet been set.
