Ocala man with suspended driver’s license nabbed after running stop sign

Wiley Sebastian Daughtery

An Ocala man was caught driving without a license after he ran through a stop sign while leaving the Berkeley Pointe Apartments on Tuesday.

A pair of Ocala Police officers on security at the complex, located on North East 7th Street, saw a silver four-door Hyundai fail to stop at the sign as it turned onto NE 7th Street, heading westbound. The officers conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of NE 25th Avenue and made contact with the driver, 57-year-old Wiley Sebastian Daughtery, according to the OPD report.

When asked for his driver’s license, Daughtery handed an officer a Florida identification card and said he hadn’t updated his license yet. The officer checked the Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID) and saw Daughtery’s license was suspended in 2010 for failing to pay court financial obligations. He also was charged twice – in 2012 and 2013 – for driving with a suspended or revoked license, making this his third offense, the report said.

Daughtery told the officers he had taken care of the issue but had yet to pay the fine to reinstate his license. He was charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license (third offense) and taken to the Marion County Jail. He was released later that evening on $5,000 bond.
