Ocala woman admits to punching boyfriend during nasty spat

Michelle Chavez

An Ocala woman admitted to punching her boyfriend after he accused her of cheating and called her a derogatory name in front of her children.

Michelle Chavez, 33, was charged with simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened around 9 p.m. Thursday at a local motel. The victim told an Ocala Police officer that he and Chavez got into an argument inside their room because she was jealous, according to the OPD report.

The victim said he and Chavez went outside and Chavez pushed him, then put both of her hands on his neck and started choking him, which impeded his normal breathing. He did not have any visible injuries, the report said.

A security guard told the officer he heard the disturbance and saw the couple arguing in front of their room. He said he saw Chavez push the victim backwards several steps. He said Chavez didn’t place her hands on the victim’s neck and only pushed him once, according to the report.

Chavez told the officer that the victim is her ex-boyfriend and they have been staying at the motel together for about a week after previously living at an apartment in Ocala for several months. She said the victim was accusing her of cheating and getting in her face and calling her a whore in front of her children, the report said.

Chavez said she left the residence to call her mother, and that the victim followed her outside and continued calling her names. She said she punched him on the right side of his jaw one time with a closed fist. She said she only punched the victim once and didn’t touch him again, according to the report.

Chavez was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was being held Saturday on $500 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Nov. 7.
