Woman jailed after admitting to taking gal pal’s vehicle and using her charge card

Nicole Ann Crews

A Dunnellon woman found herself behind bars early Tuesday morning after her roommate claimed she stole her vehicle.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Dunnellon residence and when they arrived, a woman claimed that 32-year-old Nicole Ann Crews had taken her $15,000 vehicle and then returned it. She said she had noticed the vehicle missing at about 6 a.m. and Crews wasn’t in her room, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim and her sister both told deputies they believed Crews took the vehicle “because she has a history of doing so to obtain drugs.” The woman said she confronted Crews and she said she took the vehicle because one of her friends was dying. The woman also claimed that she believes Crews obtained her bank account information in September and made a purchase for $208 from Wish.com, the report says.

A sheriff’s detective responded to the residence to take over the investigation while deputies met with Crews. After being read her rights, she admitted that she took the woman’s vehicle without permission and made statements about going to see a friend who was experiencing a possible overdose. She also admitted to using the woman’s debit card to make the purchase from Wish.com, but she claimed it was a mistake and she didn’t realize she was using the woman’s card, the report says.

Crews also allegedly admitted to using heroin and having a “serious addiction.” She was then arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, fraudulent/illegal use of credit cards and fraud/impersonating another person without consent. She was being held on $5,000 bond and is due in court on Dec. 3 at 9 a.m.
