Marion schools holding meeting to help displaced military academy students

Officials from Marion County Public Schools will hold an informational meeting Wednesday night for parents and students of the now-defunct Francis Marion Military Academy.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the academy’s auditorium, located at 1614 E Fort King Street in Ocala. The presentation will discuss options going forward for the 185 displaced students who attended the former charter high school.

The military academy suddenly shut its doors on Monday – just two days after its cadets marched in the Ocala/Marion County Christmas Parade. The school’s chairman of the board, Charles deMenzes, blamed financial reasons for the closure, saying: “We just ran out of money.”
