Two teens seriously injured when pickup slams into semi at stoplight

Two teenagers were injured early Thursday morning when a pickup truck slammed into the back of a semi-trailer in Marion County.

Two teenagers were transported to UF Health Shands Hospital after this crash on County Road 484 on Thursday morning.

The crash took place shortly after 6:30 a.m. when a white 2001 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by a 16-year-old boy from Ocala, crashed into the 2017 Mack semi-truck at the intersection of County Road 484 and SE 36th Avenue. A 15-year-old girl in the truck, also from Ocala, was critically injured and both were transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville for treatment, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.

The driver of the semi, 35-year-old Ian Petrocco, of Hudson, wasn’t injured. He had been sitting at a red light when the crash occurred and the smashed front-end of the pickup came to rest under the rear portion of the trailer. The 16-year-old was cited for careless driving, the FHP report says.
