An Ocklawaha woman who spent more than a month in jail for domestic battery last year was arrested last week on a DUI charge after being found slumped over her steering wheel in a Circle K parking lot.

Theresa Christine Wilton, 34, of 1968 SE 161st Terrace, was previously arrested in April 2019 after an incident where she reportedly assaulted three family members, including a 75-year-old man. She has another prior arrest for a nearly identical incident in October 2014, according to Marion County Jail records.

At around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the Circle K store at 15877 E. Hwy. 40 in Silver Springs. The deputy found Wilton inside the silver Chevrolet SUV with the vehicle turned on and in gear, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Wilton’s pupils were heavily constricted and her speech was slurred. She was salivating heavily to the point where saliva was dripping out of her mouth without her knowing it. Asked if she was diabetic or had any medical conditions, Wilton said no, the report said.

Wilton told the deputy she took prescription medication at around midnight the previous night. She agreed to participate in a series of standardized field sobriety exercises and failed each of them, according to the report.

Wilton was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she refused to provide a urine sample for testing.  She was released Friday on her own recognizance and is due to appear in Marion County Court on May 19.
