Dunnellon man jailed after three-way family spat

Thomas Huber

A 63-year-old Dunnellon man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly grabbed a woman by the hair and pushed a juvenile male after a day of family bickering.

Thomas Huber, of SW 183rd Terrace, was charged with two counts of domestic battery. He told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that he and the victims were in a verbal altercation all day when it escalated into a physical confrontation in the evening.

Huber said the juvenile victim was outside trying to get the dog to come in but was unsuccessful. He said he went outside and ordered the dog inside, and the juvenile victim punched him in the stomach, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Huber said the female victim walked up behind him and pulled his hair back while she and the juvenile victim were hitting him. Huber had a laceration on his right cheekbone that had dried blood on it, the report said.

The female victim said Huber had been in a heightened state of aggression all day. She said she called her friend to come pick her up and take her away from the incident location. The female victim said when her friend arrived, Huber pushed the juvenile victim in the chest and grabbed her by the hair and put her in a headlock. The female victim said the juvenile victim hit Huber until he let go of her, according to the report.

The juvenile victim confirmed the female victim’s story and said Huber is always abusive to him. He had a red mark on his chest, consistent with being pushed. The witness also confirmed the female victim’s statement. The juvenile victim’s siblings said the only thing they saw was Huber pushing the victim, the report said.

Huber was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was still being held Friday on $1,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on June 18.
