Ocala man charged with damaging motorcycle license plate

Robert Raul Nolden

A 73-year-old man who lives near the Marion Correction Institution was charged with criminal mischief after he allegedly damaged a prison employee’s motorcycle license plate.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that a man he knows as “Bob” – later identified as Robert Raul Nolden, of 3622 NE 105th St. in Ocala – damaged the license plate of his motorcycle. The victim said he is familiar with Nolden because he lives next door to the prison and makes daily complaints to the administration, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said he saw Nolden’s white van, which has writing all over the exterior, pull out of the prison parking lot. The victim said he went to the parking lot and made contact with an officer, who told him that Nolden tampered with his vehicle, the report said.

The victim said upon inspecting his motorcycle, he observed the orange straps hanging off the rear. He said his license plate was bent upwards and had a tear on the left corner approximately an inch in length. The victim estimated it would cost $60 to replace, according to the report.

The deputy observed the license plate appeared to have been recently torn, due to the exposed shiny metal consistent with bent/damaged aluminum. The officer who witnessed the incident corroborated the victim’s statement, the report said.

The deputy responded Nolden’s residence. Nolden refused to speak and invoked his Miranda rights, according to the report.

Prior to this incident, Nolden called in a traffic complaint that the deputy worked over the phone. In the call, Nolden made reference to a black motorcycle speeding past his residence every day. He was upset about the speeding and said he was going to get the plate number, the report said.

Nolden was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held on $500 bond. He’ll appear in Marion County Court on May 18.
