Ocala man accused of threatening to shoot door-knocking woman

Roy Edsel Rains

An Ocala man was arrested after he allegedly locked himself in a bedroom during a domestic spat and told a woman he’d shoot her if she didn’t stop knocking on the door.

Roy Edsel Rains, 54, of SW 100th St., was charged with simple domestic assault / intentional threat to do violence after the incident, which happened Thursday night at his and the victim’s residence.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she was arguing with Rains in the living room about 30 minutes before she called law enforcement when he entered the master bedroom and shut the door, locking it and denying her entry. The victim said she knocked and kicked the door, trying to get in, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she told Rains she would keep knocking on the door until he let her in. She said he replied, “Well, I guess I’m gonna have to shoot you.” The victim said Rains had a gun in his possession, but he never showed it to her. She said in her written statement that Rains told her if she entered the room he would take it as a threat and said, “I will shoot you,” the report said.

The victim said they possess several firearms in the residence and there were guns in the master bedroom at the time. She said Rains didn’t point a gun at her at any time they were in the living room but she didn’t know if he had a gun on him when he was in the bedroom, according to the report.

The victim said she left the house and came to the front yard to call law enforcement because she was afraid of Rains. She said he has threatened to shoot her multiple times and the threats have become more real. The victim said Rains told her he “would not lose (expletive deleted) to another bitch” and would just blow her head off, the report said.

The victim said Rains has also said, “I’ll blow your brains out,” while laying in bed after an argument. She said the threats have become more frequent and she has become more fearful for her safety. She also said she believes Rains is capable of carrying out his threats to harm her, according to the report.

Rains told the deputy he and the victim were arguing in the living room and he went into the bedroom and shut the door. He said the victim started knocking on the bedroom door and he told her to stop. Rains said he owns several firearms that are in several rooms in the residence, including the master bedroom, the report said.

Rains denied all allegations of threatening the victim. He also said he was never in fear of violence or harm from the victim, according to the report.

Rains was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was being held Saturday on $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Dec. 11.
