Ocklawaha sex offender jailed after registering late

Robert Harrison Sanborn

A 69-year-old Ocklawaha man spent a night in the Marion County Jail last week after he showed up late to update his registration as a sex offender.

Robert Harrison Sanborn, of 9339 SE 197th Ave., was supposed to check in with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in November, but he did not report until Thursday. He told a deputy he was not incarcerated or hospitalized, and that he just forgot to register, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Sanborn was convicted in federal court in 2005 of knowingly receiving child pornography. He is required to register as a sex offender in May and November of every year. Sanborn originally registered in Orange County in 2011 and has registered 23 times in Florida. He most recently registered in Marion County on May 28 and completed a form acknowledging he understood the registration requirements, the report said.

Sanborn was released Friday on $1,000 bond. He’ll appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 5, 2021.
