Silver Springs man accused of pointing gun at man’s head

Richard William Bobo

A Silver Springs man was arrested Sunday after he reportedly grabbed a man by the shirt and pointed a gun at his head during an argument.

Richard William Bobo, 44, of 6205 SE 183rd Ave., was charged with battery (second or subsequent offense) and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded around 5:30 p.m. to a location on NE 37th Street in Silver Springs, where the victim said there had been a verbal argument earlier due to an orange truck driving carelessly while children were out playing. The victim said the vehicle returned about an hour later, occupied by Bobo and his son, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Bobo got out of the truck, approached him and got in his face while shouting. He said he told Bobo to back up because he didn’t want to get COVID-19. The victim said Bobo kept shouting in his face, so he pushed him back, the report said.

The victim said Bobo then grabbed him by his shirt with his left hand, pulled out a handgun with his other hand and pointed it at his head. The victim said, “I thought he was about to shoot me. I thought he was about to end my life,” according to the report.

A witness provided video that showed what happened right after Bobo pointed the gun at the victim. The deputy saw Bobo, with a black handgun in his hand, in a verbal argument with the victim. Bobo went to an orange Toyota Tacoma and it appeared he took a magazine out of the weapon, put another magazine in and then loaded a round into the chamber. The witness said Bobo then got into his vehicle and left, the report said.

Three other witnesses said they saw Bobo grab the victim and point the gun at him, according to the report.

Contacted at his residence, Bobo told the deputy he got surrounded by multiple people yelling at him. He said someone pushed his son up against his truck. Bobo said he pulled out a gun, but it wasn’t loaded and that he never loaded it. He said he never yelled at anyone but did try to talk to them to figure out what happened earlier in the day. Asked where his gun was located, Bobo said it was in his vehicle and provided the deputy with a Beretta 9mm handgun, the report said.

After being read his Miranda warning, Bobo agreed to speak with the deputy. Asked at what point he grabbed the victim’s shirt and pointed the gun at him, Bobo said, “After he pushed me,” according to the report.

Bobo’s criminal history shows a prior conviction for battery in September 1999 in Marion County. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Sunday on $4,000 bond. No court information was available.
