Ocala woman back in jail after pot and needles found in her car

Jessica Ann Zylo

An Ocala woman who spent a month in jail over the summer was arrested again recently after two baggies of marijuana and several needles were found under the passenger seat during a traffic stop in Ocklawaha.

Jessica Ann Zylo was charged with possession of over 20 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

Marion County Jail records show Zylo was behind bars June 24 through July 22 on charges of possession of more than 3 grams of a synthetic cannabinoid, possession of a schedule IV narcotic, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence, giving false information involving a crash and retail petit theft.

At around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy saw a 2009 four-door Ford leaving a gas station at the 2500 block of East Highway 25 with a windshield cracked severely enough to cause concern for the driver’s safety. The vehicle also had a registration sticker that expired in July 2020, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop and spoke with Zylo, who was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle. When asked for her driver’s license, Zylo said she didn’t have it in her possession as it was recently suspended. She said she paid to get it reinstated but she hasn’t received it yet. Zylo said her license should be valid and that her new registration sticker is supposed to be mailed to her. She was unable to provide any documentation of the payments she said she made to have her license and registration reinstated, the report said.

A records check showed Zylo’s license was suspended Nov. 17 for failure to pay a court obligation and has not been reinstated, and her registration is expired and has not been renewed. Zylo was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle without a license, according to the report.

During an inventory of Zylo’s vehicle, a deputy found a blue zipper bag under the front passenger seat that contained a plastic bag containing two plastic baggies filled with a green leafy substance. The deputy also found an eyeglass case that contained multiple hypodermic needles. The green leafy substance weighed 22 grams (raw weight) and field tested positive for marijuana, the report said.

After being read her Miranda warning, Zylo said she didn’t want to speak to the deputy. She was being held Sunday on $3,500 bond and is due to appear in Marion County Court on Feb. 9, 2021.
