Ocala hosting Sincelejo, Colombia delegation as part of ‘sister city’ agreement

The City of Ocala will host a delegation from Sincelejo, Colombia as part of a new Sister City Agreement between the two. 

The Sincelejo delegation will visit Ocala to commemorate the Sister City Agreement from October 24 to October 28, when they will depart to Washington, D.C. 

The tentative agenda for the visit will be presented to the Ocala City Council during its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 3. 

According to the agenda, the mayors of both cities will meet on Monday, October 25 for a photo session and gift exchange between the cities. After a luncheon at the Country Club of Ocala, the delegation will tour city departments, including fire, police, water resource and public works, among others. 

On October 26, the delegation will tour the city of Ocala and on October 27, it will meet with local business owners. 

In 2008, the city acknowledged a similar relationship with the town of Newbridge, Ireland, located in the county of Kildare.

The Ocala City Council and Newbridge Town Council approved and signed a “twinning agreement” linking the two communities to “promote friendship,” share culture, and encourage tourism and “economic partnerships.”
