Fort King to host historic cooking and crafting classes

Historic cooking and crafting classes are coming to Fort King National Historic Landmark beginning next month.

The first hands-on class, Cast Iron Cooking, is being held on Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants will learn how to cook meals using cast iron along with the proper care instructions.

All food and equipment will be provided, and participants will be able to eat everything that is cooked during the class.

Historic Rugs, the second interactive class, will be held on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants will be shown how to make a no-sew rag rug that they will be able to bring home.

Upcoming hands-on classes will also focus on cross stitching (June 25) and broom making (July 23).

The classes are for adults (ages 18 and up) and there is a $15 fee to participate. Registration is currently open for the Cast Iron Cooking and Historic Rugs classes.

All classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Fort King National Historic Landmark located at 3925 E Fort King Street in Ocala.
