Fort King National Historic Landmark hosting cast iron cooking class this weekend

The Fort King National Historic Landmark is preparing to kick off its series of historic cooking and crafting classes this weekend.

The first hands-on class, Cast Iron Cooking, is being held on Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants will learn how to cook meals using cast iron along with the proper care instructions.

All food and equipment will be provided, and participants will be able to eat everything that is cooked during the class.

Historic Rugs, the second interactive class, will be held on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants will be shown how to make a no-sew rag rug that they will be able to bring home.

Upcoming hands-on classes will also focus on creating a take-home cross stitch piece (Cross Stitch on Saturday, June 25) and making a full-size pioneer broom to take home or give as a gift (Broom Making on Saturday, July 23).

The classes are for adults over the age of 18. There is a $15 fee to participate, and registration is currently open.

All classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Fort King National Historic Landmark located at 3925 E Fort King Street in Ocala.
