Irish family band headlining this week’s 2022 Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series concert

A traditional Irish family band is headlining this week’s 2022 Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series free concert.

On Friday, May 13 at 7 p.m., the live music will kick off at Webb Field (1501 West Silver Springs Boulevard) with singer-songwriter and Navy veteran Scott Jackson. After his performance, The Byrne Brothers will hit the stage to close out the show.

The Byrne Brothers is a family band that includes three siblings: 15-year-old Luca on button accordion, 13-year-old Finn on banjo, and 10-year-old Dempsey on bodhran and tin whistle. Their father also plays guitar, uilleann pipes, fiddle, and bagpipes.

Additional free concerts will be held on each Friday through July 1 (excluding May 27), and concertgoers will be treated to live music from the following headliners:

  • Friday, May 20 – The Drifters featuring Rick Sheppard (R&B/Soul).
  • Friday, June 3 – Reggae Force (Reggae).
  • Friday, June 10 – Bette Smith (Soul/Rock).
  • Friday, June 17 – Natu Camara (Guinean Afro-Rock).
  • Friday, June 24 – Melvin Williams (Inspirational).
  • Friday, July 1 – Grand Finale with Miles Nielsen and The Rusted Hearts, and a patriotic performance with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to featuring a diverse lineup of artists that spans multiple musical genres, the concert series will also celebrate Black Music Month in June with African American and Black musicians and a partnership with Ocala’s Juneteenth Celebration.

Each concert will spotlight a local nonprofit organization that will conduct a special activity or performance during the event’s intermission. There will also be plenty of food trucks and an Ocala Recreation Mobile trailer with outdoor games and activities.

Admission to each concert is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. The music series is a ‘rain or shine’ event, and if a rain call is made, the concert will be moved indoors at the E.D. Croskey Recreation Center (1510 NW 4th Street).
