The Reilly Arts Center officially unveiled a new piece of public art last week that spans across the newly-expanded venue’s north-facing wall.
Ocala-based artist Justin Alsedek designed and created the 60-foot by 10-foot mural, and it features over 50 different colors.
According to the Reilly Arts Center, the mural was a part of the larger vision for its 15,590 square-foot expansion, which opened in January of 2022. A call to artists was announced in July, and Alsedek’s proposal was awarded the project. The mural took approximately six weeks to complete and is the largest mural Alsedek has created to date.
“My thought process for making this design is to capture the many possibilities within the creation of music through movement, tempo and dynamics,” said Alsedek. “I see this piece exemplifying a place where the music is waiting to be discovered.”
Alsedek is no stranger to the Ocala art scene and has painted other murals throughout the city, including a ““selfie wall mural” in downtown Ocala and a large-scale mural covering the Brick City Center for the Arts courtyard.
The latest mural by Asledek can be viewed at the Reilly Arts Center, which is located at 500 NE 9th Street in Ocala.
