Ocala firefighters came to the aid of a motorist on Thursday afternoon after their vehicle’s engine caught on fire.
Shortly after 12 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue’s Engine 1 unit responded to the Shell gas station located at 1517 SW 10th Street in Ocala. Crews observed smoke and flames rising from the car’s engine compartment.
OFR’s Engine 1 unit used a hose line to blast the exterior of the car with water, and the fire was quickly extinguished. In a social media post, OFR stated that a “major incident” was avoided thanks to the prompt actions of the vehicle’s occupants and Engine 1’s quick response.
There were no injuries reported.
“Remember, if you detect smoke or spot a flame while driving, pull over, turn off the ignition, get out of and step away from the vehicle, and call 9-1-1,” added Ocala Fire Rescue.
