Man killed after crashing pickup truck into semi in Marion County

A 41-year-old motorist from Mount Dora was killed on Saturday afternoon after his pickup truck crashed into a semi-truck in Marion County.

Shortly after 3:15 p.m., the semi-truck was stopped in the outside lane of N U.S. Highway 441, at the intersection of NW 77th Street, due to a red traffic light. At the same time, the pickup truck was traveling southbound on N U.S. Highway 41, near the same intersection, in the outside lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the driver of the pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed, and he failed to slow down as he approached the traffic in front of him. As a result, the front right of the pickup truck collided with the semi-truck’s trailer approximately 20 feet from the intersection.

The pickup truck’s driver was trapped inside the vehicle following the collision. Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the intersection, and the driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased by a paramedic.

The driver of the semi-truck, identified in the FHP report as a 32-year-old woman from Jacksonville, sustained minor injuries.

The names of the drivers involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
