Readers weigh in on bringing commercial flights to Ocala

More readers submitted letters to Ocala-News.com to share their thoughts on bringing commercial flights to Ocala International Airport.

“I’m an Argentinian citizen developing a few businesses in Florida, and Ocala caught my heart. It is a wonderful city located in the middle of the state, with a big potential of growth. Having commercial flights would help Ocala become a more desirable city and would contribute to the local economy so much,” says Bruno Becci, of Argentina.

“As a new resident in the Belleview/Ocala area, I believe having a few days of commercial airlines service in the Ocala area would be a great acquisition to the area that is growing,” says Belleview resident Carmen Ramos.

“I would consider flying if there was an option to all the others. I believe the population warrants one,” says Floyd Colf, Bushnell resident.

“I’m a citizen who is concerned about the airport bringing in flights to this town. People that don’t have all the money in the world for shuttles and private Lear Jets need this service. Just a simple shuttle from Gainesville and to Gainesville from Ocala. Also a simple shuttle from Orlando to Ocala and from Ocala to Orlando. It would save seniors so much more money in Lyft rides and other alternative ways if they don’t have an automobile. I’m all for an airport shuttle. Ocala’s growing people need to get a grip on it and expand the infrastructure as needed. The whole state of Florida is growing and people are moving here. It’s just the way it is and nobody is going to stop people from moving here. There’s like four or five hundred new townhouses/apartments being built (whatever you call them). And right behind them is a new VA facility at the Ocala VA clinic and, I believe, about a thousand new apartments being built. Which isn’t far from the airport. Just my humble opinion,” says Ocala resident Vance Larsen.
