Postal workers to collect donations during ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive

The National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its 31st annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive on Saturday, May 13.

Marion County residents can participate in the food drive by placing their non-perishable food donations in a plastic bag next to their mailbox on Friday night or Saturday morning. The postal workers will then collect the donations, which will benefit the food pantry at Interfaith Emergency Services.

Food donations can also be dropped off at post office lobbies in Ocala/Marion County. These donations will then be delivered to Interfaith Emergency Services for distribution in the local area.

“We are currently critically low on dry goods such as pasta, peanut butter, rice, canned vegetables, beans and canned meats,” stated Interfaith Emergency Services on its Facebook page.

The annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive is led by letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers, with help from rural letter carriers, other postal employees, and volunteers. Over the past 30 years, the drive has delivered more than 1.8 billion pounds of food, according to the United States Postal Service.
