A career fair will be held in Ocala this weekend for individuals who are interested in a career as a first responder.
On Saturday, September 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the inaugural First Responder Career Fair will be held at the McPherson Governmental Campus located at 601 SE 25th Avenue in Ocala. The event’s hosts include Marion County Fire Rescue and Ocala Fire Rescue, along with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Ocala Police Department.
The fair will spotlight the available careers and mentorship programs within the above-listed offices, which include firefighters, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, emergency telecommunicators, fire marshals, and police officers.
“You will be able to meet and talk with a variety of first responders who have a lot of experience working in the field,” stated Kerry Blood, Talent Manager for Marion County. “We hope to show the community and our students the great opportunities that are in their backyard!”
This event will also serve as an outreach opportunity for citizens. The fire marshal will be educating the public on cooking safety and smoke detectors, the police departments will be highlighting personal safety, and the county’s Solid Waste team will be reminding everyone to “Step-Up, Pick It Up, and Don’t Litter.”
In addition, the event will include food trucks, the MCFR Junior Firefighter Mile, and games. Several first responder vehicles and equipment will also be on display.
