Are electric bills too expensive? More readers submit letters on topic.

Several more readers submitted letters to Ocala-News.com to share their thoughts and concerns regarding the cost of electric bills in Ocala/Marion County.

“I’ve been a resident of Weirsdale since 2015. My electric bill never ran over $200, even on the hottest days. The last three months, my bill has been over $300. Why the sudden increase? That’s almost doubled,” says Joene Alt, Weirsdale resident.

“There’s one person in my home with two dogs and a cat, and I hover at around $700. I do have an electric water heater and a very efficient pool setup. The A/C stays at 77 to 78 degrees. The power company…crickets. The mayor’s office…crickets. The government office…crickets. So much for America’s retirement state,” says Ocala resident Peter Kay.

“I agree with the gentleman that wrote that the electric is extremely high here. When I worked out of the home, my electric was almost the same as working from home. It seems like no matter what you do, it stays about the same every month. Mine is normally over $400 (close to $500) every month. So obviously something’s going on because it was the same when I didn’t work in my home, and now I work from home and it’s still the same. I agree that we should be able to have a choice of another company besides just the City Of Ocala,” says Tiffany Hayes, Ocala resident.

“I read the letters to the editor about high electric bills and I was wondering if they are including the other city charges. That’s because Ocala sends one bill a month and that includes other city charges. My other charges include stormwater, trash, and sewage,” says Ocala resident David Harris.
