FBI hosting event for Marion parents on dangers of social media apps

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Jacksonville Division is teaming with Marion County Public Schools to host a presentation for parents next week that will focus on smartphones and the dangers of social media apps.

The event, “Be Smart with your Kids’ Smartphone,” will be held on Tuesday, November 7, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Marion Technical Institute’s auditorium located at 1614 E Fort King Street in Ocala.

The presentation will be led by special agents from the FBI who investigate crimes against children, and they will review the latest social media apps that offenders use to target and manipulate youth.

Attendees will learn how social media apps have been used in real-life local cases, and they will learn how to better protect their loved ones and students.

There is no cost to attend the event, and it is open to all parents, caregivers, and educators.

According to MCPS, the presentation may not be appropriate for children. Parental discretion is advised.
