The famed Goodyear Blimp recently paid a visit to Marion County.
On Thursday morning, the Goodyear Blimp touched down at Marion County Airport, which is located at 14968 SW 110th Street in Dunnellon.
In a social media post, the Marion County Parks and Recreation Department shared several photos of the blimp as it refueled at the airport.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company was founded in 1898. After expanding into the business of the lighter-than-air balloons and aircraft, the company created the iconic Goodyear Blimp in the 1920s, according to Goodyear’s website.
The newest generation of Goodyear Blimps, referred to as “Wingfoot One,” was launched in 2014. Since its first flight, Wingfoot One has provided aerial coverage of numerous marquee sporting events, including the NBA Finals, Daytona 500, Stanley Cup Finals, PGA Championship, and College Football Playoff National Championship.
