First Friday Art Walk returning to Downtown Ocala with ’80s retro theme

The First Friday Art Walk series will return to Downtown Ocala in two weeks with a retro-inspired theme and some accompanying tunes.

On Friday, March 1, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the music and art event will celebrate the 1980s – the time of MTV, Hop Hop, big hair, and the beginning of the digital era.

The evening’s festivities will begin with a free dance lesson on the Square by Arthur Murray Dance Center from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees will then be treated to a two-hour tribute performance of 1980s Diva Queens Tina Turner and Diana Ross by Carlene Mitchell.

To learn more about Carlene Mitchell, visit the artist’s website.

During the three-hour event, attendees will enjoy free activities with a “1980s twist,” including free hands-on activities provided by local arts organizations and visual artists working live throughout the downtown area.

There will also be special sales at participating restaurants and shops, along with extended business hours.

In addition, a vintage car exhibit by the Ocala Street Cruisers will be displayed on the east side of the Downtown Square.

Each March, the First Friday Art Walk travels back in time with Retro Sounds to pay homage to generations of past musical genres and performers.

The event is free and open to the public, and guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
