Ocala Breeders’ Sales will show hundreds of horses next week, with a sale scheduled to take place just a few days after the under-tack portion of the event is completed.

The under-tack portion of the sale will take place from Tuesday, June 10, to Saturday, June 14. All sessions are set to begin at 7:30 a.m. each day.

In horse racing, the “under-tack” portion of a sale refers to a horse being ridden by a jockey while sporting riding equipment (i.e., tack).

The sale of those horses will take place on June 17 and June 18, starting at 10 a.m. each day.

According to OBS, Hips 1 through 386, as well as supplemental entries 387 to 430, will be sold during the first sales session on June 17.

A “Hip” refers to the hip number assigned to each horse. That hip number corresponds to the horse’s catalog entry, allowing the horse to be identified throughout the sale.

During the June 18 session, Hips 451 – 833, along with supplements 834 – 873, will be sold. The horses of racing age, Hips 901 – 903, will also be offered on that day, according to OBS.

The sale comes just a couple months after the organization generated over $88 million from it’s April sale of 637 horses. That event was attended by Governor Ron DeSantis, who lent his support in opposition to a thoroughbred decoupling bill in the Florida legislature.

In March, OBS reported nearly $66 million in sales, including one horse that sold for a record-setting $3 million.

And during the organization’s summer sale last year, nearly 600 horses were sold for over $21 million.

OBS will livestream the under-tack portion of its June sale on its website. To see the races, or to review the pedigrees of the horses included on the sale, visit Ocala Breeders’ Sales online.
