Francesca’s has officially entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy as of this month, marking a final wind-down for the boutique chain in Ocala and nationwide.

The retailer, which operates locally at the Paddock Mall (3100 SW College Road), is moving forward with court-approved liquidation sales across its entire fleet of approximately 400 stores.

Ocala-News.com first reported that Francesca’s in Ocala was closing last month. While an exact final closing date for the Ocala store has not been established, the bankruptcy filing confirms that all stores will shut down permanently.

The liquidation process follows a significant financial collapse in early 2026, driven by a series of events including a failed capital infusion in late 2025 and a subsequent default on lender obligations in early January.

Before the filing, vendors alleged they were owed roughly $250 million in unpaid invoices as the company’s liquidity reached critical levels.

Court documents now indicate the company has between $10 million and $50 million in assets against liabilities estimated between $50 million and $100 million.

Ocala shoppers will find storewide discounts of 25% to 40% as the Paddock Mall location works to clear its remaining inventory.

All sales made after mid-January are final, though the company has requested court approval to continue honoring existing gift cards and rewards programs during the liquidation period.

Founded in 1999 as a single boutique in Houston, Texas, Francesca’s was established by three siblings (Chong Yi, Kyong Gill, and Insuk Koo) and a friend (John De Meritt). The brand grew rapidly from its initial concept into a mall staple, peaking at over 700 locations nationwide before filing for bankruptcy in 2020.

While the chain had approximately 27 locations across Florida as recently as mid-2025, that number had reportedly dwindled to 16 as of last month. Now, all of those locations across Florida will close. Near Ocala, the brand will close locations in Gainesville, Altamonte Springs, and Orlando.

The loss of Francesca’s comes as the Paddock Mall continues to evolve its tenant mix to include a blend of national brands and local artisan spaces.

Recent additions to the mall include lululemonPandora, Restaurant Depot ExpressMINISO, Urban Country Outfitters, Florida Fishin’ Apparel, Windsor, Pizza Per-bellini, Symmetry Coffee Company, Popeyes, Blossom Juicy Bar, and the Paddock Market.
