Ocala man jailed after disagreement with ‘devil’ over chores

An Ocala man was arrested after an argument with a family member over chores turned physical and he called the victim “the devil.”

Ronal Valentin Estevez Catala was charged with simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened Monday evening. He was released from the Marion County Jail the next day on his own recognizance and will appear in Marion County Court on April 15.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that he and a female family member (relationship redacted) got into an argument over doing the dishes. He said he went into his room and spoke to another family member about how he didn’t like being made to do chores, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Estevez Catala came into the room and confronted him, saying he was the devil and that he was worthless and wouldn’t do anything with his life. He said Estevez Catala pushed him on the bed where he was sitting and started punching him in the face. The victim said he pushed Estevez Catala off him and they began to wrestle on the ground. He said when he was able to get away, he fled to another residence and called 911, the report said.

Estevez Catala said the victim and the female family member got into an argument about the dishes. He said the victim went to his room and he overheard the victim talking about him and using profanity. Estevez Catala said he went into the room and confronted the victim. He admitted to saying the victim has the devil in him and he doesn’t need to speak to the female family member that way, according to the report.

Estevez Catala said he was provoked when the victim said he shouldn’t have to do anything. He said he pushed the victim and they wrestled on the ground until the victim got away and left the residence, the report said.

The female family member said she and the victim got into a verbal altercation over the dishes because he was playing video games and not listening. She said she didn’t see the altercation between Estevez Catala and the victim, according to the report.

Estevez Catala was taken to jail without incident.
