39-year-old Ocala man charged with trying to steal RV

Damien Aranguren

An Ocala man was arrested recently after he reportedly tried to steal an RV from the driveway of a residence on SE 54th Avenue.

Damien Aranguren, 39, of 6727 SE Cherry Rd., was charged with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft auto, burglary of an occupied dwelling and trespassing of an occupied structure.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy he was sitting in the garage with the door open when he observed the rear lights on his RV flash. The victim got up and started to walk along the driver’s side when he heard he RV’s jack starting to rise and the engine start. He walked in front of the RV and the vehicle lunged forward multiple times as if someone was trying to drive off, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said the emergency brake was engaged and that’s why the RV wouldn’t move. When the victim opened the door on the passenger side, Aranguren ran out and said, “Get out of my way!” Aranguren then ran up to the victim’s adult son’s 2020 Dodge Ram truck. The victim’s son said Aranguren tried to open his vehicle’s driver’s side door while he was in it, the report said.

The victim’s son said Aranguren couldn’t open the door because it was locked, so he ran around the to the passenger side and hit the door window six to seven times. He said Aranguren ran to his vehicle and left the area, according to the report.

Using a description provided by the victim, Ocala Police officers identified and arrested Aranguren and took him to the Marion County Jail. He was released on $12,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on July 21.
