Nine new COVID-19 patients in Ocala as Florida zooms past 93,000 cases

Nine new COVID-19 patients were reported in Ocala on Saturday as Florida added more than 4,000 cases in a 24-hour period.

Marion County is now reporting 389 cases – an increase of 24 from Friday to Saturday – among 166 men, 217 women, five non-residents and one person listed as unknown. There have been 10 deaths and 48 people have required some form of hospital care.

The most recent Marion County cases include:

  • 23-year-old woman (Reddick);
  • 23-year-old man (Belleview);

  • 25-year-old woman (Summerfield);
  • 25-year-old man (Ocala);
  • 27-year-old woman (Ocala);
  • 30-year-old man (Ocala);
  • 32-year-old woman (Ocala);
  • 36-year-old woman (Belleview);
  • 39-year-old woman Dunnellon);
  • 42-year-old man (Ocala);
  • 50-year-old woman (Belleview);
  • 54-year-old woman (Ocala);
  • 63-year-old woman (Summerfield);
  • 68-year-old woman (Dunnellon);
  • 68-year-old man (Ocala);
  • 69-year-old woman (Ocala);
  • 75-year-old woman (Ocala); and
  • 79-year-old woman (Ocala).

The overwhelming majority of Marion County cases – 244 – have been reported in Ocala, which increased by nine patients from Friday to Saturday. Others have been reported in Belleview (23), Dunnellon (19), Citra (11), Ocklawaha (7), Silver Springs (5), Anthony (3), Reddick (3), The Villages (2), Weirsdale (1) and Fort McCoy (1).

Overall, the tri-county area now has 1,342 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 54 in a 24-hour period. Those are comprised of 731 men, 588 women, 22 non-residents and one person listed as unknown. There have been 46 deaths and 185 people have been hospitalized.

Lake County continues to pace the tri-county area with 671 cases – an increase of 25 in a 24-hour period – among 370 men, 286 women and 15 non-residents. There have been 19 deaths and 91 people have been hospitalized.

Clermont continues to lead the way in Lake County with 162 cases. Others have been reported in Tavares (141), Leesburg (81), Eustis (79), Mount Dora (39), Groveland (28), Lady Lake (22), Sorrento (17), Mascotte (14), Minneola (14), Umatilla (13), The Villages (10), Fruitland Park (7), Montverde (5), Howey-in-the-Hills (3), Altoona (2), Yalaha (2), Okahumpka (1), Grand Island (2), Astatula (1), Astor (1) and Paisley (1).

Sumter County now has 282 COVID-19 cases – an increase of five in 24 hours – among 195 men, 85 women and two non-residents. There have been 17 deaths and 46 people have been seen in area hospitals.

Bushnell leads the way with 122 cases – 119 of which have been reported at the Sumter Correctional Institution. Other cases have been reported in The Villages (78), Lake Panasoffkee (22), Oxford (20), Webster (11), Wildwood (10), Lady Lake portion of the county (7), Sumterville (5), Coleman (4) and Center Hill (1). The federal prison in Coleman also has identified four cases among three staff members and one inmate.

All told, Florida is reporting 93,797 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 4,049 in a 24-hour period. Of those, 91,670 are residents. There have been 3,144 deaths and 12,988 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State.
