An Ocala woman with a dozen prior arrests is back in the Marion County Jail after she allegedly slapped a man and destroyed his residence, pouring bleach all over his clothes, throwing items and breaking his televisions.
Kellie Sue Kortright, 52, was charged with domestic battery (second or subsequent offense) after the incident, which happened June 17. Jail records show Kortright has been arrested 13 times since 2006 on charges including prostitution, resisting arrest, battery on a law-enforcement officer, failure to pay child support and probation violations. She was convicted of battery in April 2008.
The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Kortright became upset and started a verbal argument that became physical when they pushed each other. He said he left the incident location and went to a neighbor’s house. The victim said Kortright followed him and slapped him in the face while they were in the front yard. He said his neighbor witnessed Kortright slapping him, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The victim said after Kortright slapped him, she left the area with another person in a green Mercury vehicle. He said Kortright fled to a mobile home park located off NW Highway 27, the report said.
The deputy did not observe any injuries on the victim but noted the residence was in extreme disarray, with items scattered all over the floor. The deputy saw a television on the floor with multiple cracks on the screen and what appeared to be ketchup sprayed all over the furniture and walls inside the residence. The deputy could smell cleaning products, and the floor appeared to be wet with a clear liquid, according to the report.
The victim’s neighbor said she saw the victim and Kortright having an argument in her front yard. She said Kortright slapped the victim in the face. The witness said the victim did not touch Kortright during the incident in her yard, the report said.
A deputy responded to 3113 NW 16th Place and spoke with Kortright, who said she and the victim were fighting and the victim’s property was destroyed due to the physical altercation. She said she did slap the victim because he beats her. Kortright said the victim punched her in the face but she didn’t contact law enforcement because she didn’t want to get him in trouble, according to the report.
The deputy observed Kortright was acting erratic and appeared to be stalling. She was acting nervous and pausing like she was being untruthful. The deputy observed Kortright had multiple injuries but was unable to determine if they were from the altercation. Kortright said the victim punched her on the left side of her face, but the deputy was unable to see any injuries there, the report said.
Kortright was released Wednesday on $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on July 21.
