Whiskey-drinking Ocala man accused of shoving woman during spat

Jeffery F. Dowdy

An Ocala man was arrested after he allegedly shoved a woman into a desk during a domestic spat.

Jeffery F. Dowdy, 58, of SW 46th Terrace, was charged with simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened Sunday night.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she and Dowdy were in a verbal argument when he pushed her, causing her to fall backwards into a home office desk. She said Dowdy had been drinking alcohol, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim’s son said he saw Dowdy push his mom and his mom fall down, the report said.

Dowdy told the deputy he had been drinking whiskey and had a verbal argument with the victim. The deputy asked to see the inside of the home office, where the desk was on its side. When asked what happened to the desk, Dowdy said the victim went to pass by him and he stepped out of the way and she fell into the desk, according to the report.

Dowdy was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Monday on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Sept. 18.
