Belleview mayor discusses upcoming events, road construction in letter to residents

The mayor of Belleview recently addressed residents in a letter that discusses upcoming events and road construction projects.

City mayor Christine Dobkowski kicked off the letter by highlighting the upcoming Friday Foodie Fest which will be held on February 25 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lake Lillian Park. The event will feature numerous food trucks, vendors, and free activities for children.

The Belleview Community Center is celebrating its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, April 2. Following the ceremony, the annual fishing tournament for children will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Children ages 15 and younger are eligible to participate and prizes will be offered in several categories. A free community cookout will be provided for all attendees courtesy of the Belleview Police Department.

For more information on the tournament, or to register a child, call Mariah Moody at 352-233-2109.

In other news, Dobkowski stated that the Florida Department of Transportation has resumed the resurfacing and construction project on U.S. Highway 441. Several new medians, turning lanes, and bike lanes will be added throughout the city. Two pedestrian crosswalks will also be constructed, and the on-street parking is being removed.

In addition, the FDOT is constructing a multi-use trail that will begin at SE 102nd Place, and the trail will end near the Sheriff’s substation on SE 80th Street.

Dobkowski encourages residents to stop by Belleview City Hall (5343 SE Abshier Boulevard) during her open office hours which are held every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The next regular Belleview City Commission meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1 at Belleview City Hall.
