Marion County resident offers warning on scam calls

To the Editor:

I received a call from someone who said they were from the Social Security Administration. They asked me to verify my ID, and I told them that they called me so they should know my ID.

The caller then asked for the last four digits of my social security number. I refused to give it to them, and I told them to send me a certified letter if they had a problem.

The Social Security Administration will not call unless you have made contact with them first. If anyone gets a phone call and the person says they are from the Social Security Administration, it is a scam. Hang up, do not give any personal information, and contact your local Social Security Administration office as soon as possible.
