A Citra man was arrested after an off-duty Marion County Sheriff’s deputy saw him driving erratically on NE 95th Street early Sunday morning.
According to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report, Carlos Enrique Valenzuela, 35, was stopped by the off-duty deputy after he swerved and ran off the roadway into a grassy area. The man told the deputy that he was intoxicated and did not have a driver’s license, the report states, adding that he provided an identification card from Guatemala.
Another deputy confirmed that Valenzuela hadn’t been issued a driver’s license. The deputy said that Valenzuela told him he was “drunk” and didn’t want to drive anymore, the report says.
Valenzuela failed several field sobriety tests and was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and driving without a valid license. He agreed to provide a breath sample, which revealed a blood alcohol content of .22 The legal limit in Florida is .08.
Valenzuela was booked on $2,000 bond.
