Ocala woman jailed after departing roommate stabbed in apartment

Madeline Butler

An Ocala woman was arrested early Monday morning after her soon-to-be departing apartment roommate reported being stabbed.

When officers arrived, a 20-year-old man told deputies that he allegedly had been stabbed in the abdomen by 21-year-old Madeline Butler. The incident took place at the Deerfield Apartments, No. 2804, located at 1850 SE 18th Ave.

Butler, who was detained and transported to the Ocala Police Department for questioning, told officers that her roommates moved out Sunday morning without telling her and returned around midnight. She said she was angry and told the roommate, “I’m going to stab you if you don’t get out.” And then she allegedly stabbed him “because he punched her in the head,” an Ocala Police report says.

Ocala Police officers were called to the Deerfield Apartments on SE 18th Avenue early Monday morning after a man reported being stabbed by his roommate.

The man was trauma alerted to a local hospital and upon release, was transported to the police department for an interview. He told officers that he moved out of the apartment on Sunday morning and when he returned to retrieve his remaining items, Butler confronted him.

The man said she put her hand in his face and pushed him before allegedly grabbing a knife from the kitchen and shoving him toward the dining room table, the report says, adding that after he had been stabbed, the man pushed Butler off of him and left the apartment.

Butler was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She was being held on $10,000 bond.
