Hooker’s knife-wielding boyfriend interrupts transaction, grabs money and runs

Bruce Wishart Hunter

A man who paid $50 for sex at an Ocala motel ended up with nothing when the prostitute’s boyfriend pulled her from the room and stole the money at knifepoint.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that he was outside the Queen’s Garden Resort when a female acquaintance walked by and asked to borrow some money. The victim agreed to give her $50 in exchange for sex and they adjourned to Room 103, where he placed two $20 bills and a $10 bill on a table, a sheriff’s office report states.

Before the two could complete the transaction, someone knocked at the door. The prostitute opened the door and a man later identified as Bruce Wishart Hunter, 42, of 3351 S. Pine Ave. in Ocala, entered and said, “(Expletive deleted), come on.” He then pushed her out of the room and grabbed the $50 from the table, the report says.

The victim told Hunter to give him the money back and Hunter asked what he was going to do. When the victim told him again to return the money, Hunter pulled a folding knife out of his pocket and told the victim to take it. Hunter didn’t open the knife but the victim felt he would try to stab him if he tried to take the money back, the report says.

Hunter left the room and the victim followed him into the parking lot and took a picture of him. Hunter then fled across the street to Sun Days Motel, where deputies were able to detain him and the prostitute.

The prostitute admitted to the deputy that she had agreed to have sex with the victim for $50 and went to the room to complete the transaction. While they were there, Hunter knocked on the door and told her to leave. She said Hunter didn’t push her and that she didn’t see him take the money. She also said Hunter is her boyfriend and was aware she was prostituting herself and had accepted it, the report says.

Hunter told the deputy he was visiting friends at the Queens Garden resort when he was told his girlfriend was in a room with another man. He knocked on the door, told her to come on and pushed her out of the room. Hunter denied taking any money from the victim, threatening him or displaying a knife. When shown the photo taken by the victim, he confirmed it was him, the report says.

Deputies searched Hunter’s girlfriend’s room and found $20 in a pair of his pants and an orange folding knife. When looking through a jacket Hunter had been wearing, they found two small plastic bags containing a white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine, the report says, adding that a further search turned up two more identical bags in an oatmeal container that also contained a white powdery substance.

Hunter told deputies that he uses cocaine but hadn’t used any in a while, the report says, adding that he said the cocaine in his jacket may have been there since last year and he denied any knowledge of the cocaine in the oatmeal container.

Hunter was charged with committing robbery with a weapon, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s being held in the Marion County Jail on $23,000 bond, with a court date set for Feb. 26. Deputies were unable to establish probable cause to arrest his girlfriend.
